How to Say Goodbye to The Old You

You can usually sense it when you visit a friend’s house for the first time.

You’ll notice a weird smell emanating from the kitchen –

Or the dog hair everywhere and it makes your nose itch and your eyes water…

And then you see your friend head to the kitchen, grab a bag of chips and plop down in front of the couch with the clicker.

You wonder what the heck he’s thinking, when suddenly, it dawns on you:

Your home is LITTERED with kids toys…to the point you have to step over and around things all the time.

…among other things I won’t mention here.

See, we get so comfortable in our own surroundings, that we lose the ability to see things as they are. We do things by default, instead of programming them into our day.

We feel busy and stressed, as if we don’t actually control our life and our behaviors…and in some part, this is because we don’t!

So how do you get past the comfort zone – to even understand WHAT your comfort zone is? Try this:

Today, write down EVERYTHING you do. Just a brief note will suffice – you don’t need to write an essay.

For example, this morning I woke up, walked into my office, turned off the alarm on my phone and opened up my email app. Then, I started archiving new messages that have come in over the last 24 hours that I just don’t need to deal with.

So my log would look something like this:

-alarm goes off – out of bed & turn off alarm in office

-check email on phone

-archive a bunch of messages

-wrote blog post

-blog error caused post to disappear

-wrote message to support

-re-wrote blog post

…so you can see what’s going on here, right?

Just looking at that list, I can already see at least 5 areas where I can improve my life, make more time for myself, my family, and my business…and actually get things DONE!

Give this a shot today & see yourself as an outsider would. Then, realize that you have the power to change whatever it is you wish to.

Set a goal.
